The incident took place in Fairfield County around 5 p.m. on the southbound side near Exit 17 in Westport.

As firefighters were finishing clearing a tractor-trailer crash on I-95 in Westport, they received a second call for another rash just an exit away.

The first arriving units found a box truck on its side over the concrete barrier on the left side of the highway within a construction zone, said Assistant Westport Fire Chief Brett Kirby.

The two occupants of the vehicle had self-extricated and were evaluated for injuries. Fortunately, all injuries both appeared to be non-life threatening, Kirby said.

Representatives from the state Department of Energy & Environmental Protection arrived on the scene quickly after also just clearing the previous accident and began off-loading fuel from the box truck in preparation for a lift off the barrier.

The last fire department unit cleared the scene at 7:40 p.m.

Traffic on the highway was significantly impacted southbound due to the accident, Kirby said.
